Ataru, a shotokan karate club based at Shillington Lower School, sent seven of its members to the second kyu grade nationals in Slough.
These included a family of four (mum, dad and their two sons).
Although the competition was strong with about 200 entrants from around the UK, Ataru gained a bronze in the boys' under-12 kumite (sparring) through Jamie Challinor and a gold in the girls' under-14 kumite courtesy of Anneka Chana.
Both children have been training under sensei Jamie Thomson for two years. Jamie Challinor had never entered a karate competition, although Anneka won a silver medal in last year's competition.
Anyone interested in starting karate, especially families, should contact Tracii Thomson on 07890 424010 or visit www.ataru-karate.co.uk for details. The club welcomes anyone over the age of six.
