He met Liam Smith from Rotunda ABC at the Barnsley Metrodome on Saturday.
Both boys were bidding for a hat-trick of national titles after winning two in previous years.
The expected close bout materialised with Gray starting stronger and dominating the opening round.
Smith battled back in the second before a close third round saw him edge ahead.
Gray gained control of the fight in the fourth and final round but just lost out on points to take the silver medal.
