Running for Herts Phoenix, she clocked 9:48.51 at Watford on Saturday evening in the British Milers Club promotion.

This was also a UK all-comers record and puts her 13th in the Commonwealth and sixth in the European under-23 all-time lists.

Stevenage and North Herts AC athlete Hayley Beard ran a fast 4:23.69 to finish fourth in her 1500m race at the same meeting.

Bunmi Awokoya ran two 100m races in the SPAR invitational under-17 women's event at the Bedford International Games on Sunday.

She clocked a windy personal best in the heat (12.29) and finished second in the final, clocking a legal personal best of 12.38.

Bunmi also competed in four races on Saturday at Hemel Hempstead in the Herts schools' county championships. She won the 100m and finished runner-up in the 200m.

Stevenage and North Herts had two male athletes competing in the Eastern Vets Track and Field Championships on Sunday at the Stantonbury stadium, Milton Keynes.

Despite the hot and humid conditions, the pair came away with seven gold medals between them.

Godfrey Leak, competing in the m60 (60-64) category, was outstanding in the field events.

He won the shot (10.57m), discus (39.48m) and hammer (33.78m).

John Mayor, in the m45 category (athletes aged 45 to 49), had a busy day. He took on seven events and won gold in four of them and silver in the other three.

He won the 400m hurdles (67 secs), long jump (5.50m), high jump (1.70m) and 110m hurdles (16.3 secs) and was runner-up in the shot (8.93m), discus (24.55m) and 100m (12.6 secs).

Both athletes are aiming for the European Masters in Poznan, Poland, later in the year.

Some of the club's younger members finished fourth in the Herts county under-13 team challenge.

The match, between the six clubs in the county, saw a number of members unavailable due to a local schools' league match.

Competing last Wednesday at St Albans, some of the youngest club members turned in some excellent performances.

Billie Vernon-Hamilton posted two personal bests, winning his 100m race in 14.1 and the shot put with 7.21m. Alice Rackham was their other winner, clocking a personal best of 30.8 for her 200m race.

Second places went to Ben Auburn, Peter De'Ath and Tom Sheren and the boys' 4x100m relay team.

Third placers were Alex Gates, Laura Saxon and Monica Hamilton.

The other team members were Abigail Evans-Pughe, Hannah Dewhurst, Claire Webb, Paul Spicer, and Jack Gates.
