Hitchin won a thriller at home to Totteridge by one wicket in the Chess Valley League on Sunday.

The visitors batted first and posted 216-7 off their 45 overs with two wickets apiece for Simon Bayston, John Moffatt and Will Pugh.

Early wickets had Hitchin in trouble but a large middle order partnership between Danny Fair (64) and Bayston (62) put them in control.

Skipper Oliver Hammond made 30 but was dismissed with a boundary needed for victory.

With four wickets in hand, the home side were still comfortable but a crazy run out and two more wickets fell in the next few overs.

Hitchin, needing two for victory with only one wicket left, were indebted to youngster Jonny Gray. He stood up to the pressure as he launched one over mid wicket to win his side the game.

- Baldock were beaten by 42 runs at Avenue Park by Therfield in Sunday's Broadview Windows North Herts League game.

Therfield batted first and got 186-9 off 40 overs in the Division One game.

Ben Diplock returned his first five-wicket haul with figures of 5-43 and Alistair Jones took 2-18.

Baldock were in trouble at 33-3 but a good stand of 75 between skipper Rob Cant (44) and 17-year-old Nick Blenkin who scored an excellent 40 looked like it may bring Baldock close to victory.

Once they were dismissed, the rest of the batsmen perished trying to find the boundary as the run rate soared with Baldock eventually all out for 144.

Cricketers won their Division Two clash against St Joseph's.

Openers Tim Porter (40) and Ian Cousins (38) got Cricketers off to a good start. They were supported by Scott Crouch (32) and all-rounder Barry Males (30) in their total of 170-6.

The Luton side lost two early wickets and then Males (3-23 in eight overs) and spinner Richard Starkey (3-10 off seven) saw St Joseph's reduced to 121 all out.

- Henlow made it three wins out of three in the Beds League Division Two on Sunday.

Scott Spicer took 5-26 in his 10 overs as Ampthill 2nds limped to 108 all out on a damp track.

Henlow lost five wickets in reaching their total inside 30 overs, Nico Hand top scoring with a quickfire 28.

The other matches - the second team's Beds League game at Caldecote on Sunday and their visit to Sandy in the Millman the day before - both fell victim to the weather.

- Preston entertained Stanmore on Sunday in a 40 overs-a-side match.

The visitors elected to bat first and posted 153-8, spinners Max Anderson and Mark Smith taking five wickets between them.

In reply, Matt Burleigh got the Preston innings off to a solid start with 28.

Then David Williams accelerated the total with a hard-hit 49 backed up by Jack Byford who contributed 19.

Wickets fell regularly and youngsters Anderson and Callum Blair achieved seven off the last over to see Preston win by two wickets with one ball to spare.
