There was strong local interest as the Herts Golf Union staged its 2007 boys' championship.

The championship took place at Batchworth Park Golf Club, Rickmansworth, last Thursday.

In the under-16 title for the Reid Trophy, Letchworth's Laurie Owen provided the greatest challenge to winner Luke Colgate (Berkhamsted) by finishing with a creditable 153 total, two shots behind.

The team trophy in the event was taken by Letchworth and their team of Joe Smith, Daniel Ellis-Banbury and Pravin Liddar who had a best two total of 307.

It was an especially good result for Joe who celebrated his 18th birthday on the day!
