Letchworth batted first and reached a good haul of bonus points without being able to force a win for the third week running.

But unlike the previous two weeks where they had the opposition on the ropes, Saturday saw them lose a thriller at Division One leaders Millhillians off the last ball.

Colin Letford won the toss and chose to bat and once again his top order proved up to the task.

Led by Steve March (64) and John Hilliard (44), they reached 211-6 off their 53 overs.

As usual, Letchworth opened with the old ball and wickets fell regularly, but unfortunately not that of Millhillian's Australian overseas player who batted them into a winning position.

The game was in the balance until the final over from Richard Jerome which started with the home side needing 15.

Two sixes to the short leg-side boundary brought up the Aussie's ton and Millhillians scrambled a single off the last ball to win by three wickets.

Jerome finished with 5-85 and there were also two wickets for Andy Newland.

The second XI also lost a close encounter with their Hoddesdon counterparts at Whitethorn Lane.

They bowled out the visitors for 186, with another four wickets for Adam Jenkins, and three each for Anush Newman and Mike deNooijer.

An unusually lacklustre batting performance saw Letchworth bowled out for 154 with only Newman (47) getting going.

The thirds shared a rather boring draw with Abbots Langley 2nds, reaching 199-9 and restricting the home side to 151-6 in reply.

But the fourth XI had a run-fest with Division 10 leaders Bragbury, scoring 247-9 with Matt Heath making 72 and James Newsome 42 before Bragbury made light work off the target to win by six wickets.

Stars of the show again were the fifth XI who met Reed 3rds in a top of the table clash in Division 13 and bowled them out for 203. Letchworth lost two early wickets but youngsters Darren Curry (76no) and Tom Simmons (67no) steered them to a resounding eight-wicket victory.

* Letchworth entertained Northwood Town in the Chess Valley League on Sunday and put a mediocre opposition to the sword.

They reached 324-2 led by Colin Letford (139) and Simon Elliott (114), with Jonno Gordon weighing in with 47no at the end.

The visitors, helped by some friendly bowling, reached 225 with Dave Albon taking 4-2 with his occasional spinners.

Their development XI did not fare so well at Abbots Langley. Although they recovered from 34-5 to reach 193-8, mainly due to Adam Booth's maiden fifty (67no), the home side made short work of the target to win by seven wickets.
