Two goals in the space of three minutes gave visitors, St Albans, a narrow victory over Letchworth Ladies first XI, in an enthralling East Division 1 fixture.

The game flowed from end to end from the off but it was Letchworth who deservedly took the lead after 22 minutes when Hayley Payne finished off a fast attacking move.

However, St Albans hit back quickly when, just three minutes later, poor marking allowed a visiting forward too much time at the top of the circle to pick her spot.

Worse followed a few minutes later when St Albans were awarded a contentious penalty corner from which they scored.

The second half continued to ebb and flow despite the encroaching fog which made visibility difficult for both players and umpires.

Although the umpires at one stage wanted to abandon the game, both teams opted to continue a highly competitive game, though Letchworth's cause was not helped when Olivia Hewitt was 'sin-binned' for dissent midway through the half.
