Three youngsters from Letchworth Golf Club have all been successful in prestigious competitions.

Junior member Ben Harman, an 18-year-old who lives in Baldock, reached the semi-finals of the St Andrews Boys' Championship.

Ben began the four-day competition by finishing in the top 32 of the original entry of 150.

The qualifying round and the first two knockout rounds were played on the Eden Course.

From the quarter-finals onwards, the matches were played on the Old Course with Ben finally losing to the eventual winner.

Ben, who now plays off scratch, also won the Letchworth club championship back in July.

Two more Letchworth boys have won a prestigious team award.

Mark Hammond and Dean Laing came away with an array of trophies at the Saffron Walden Golf Club Open on Friday.

The morning round saw Mark (10 handicap) and Dean (25) win the John Brown team trophy with two net 70 scores.

And the afternoon round saw Dean come third overall, out of 47 players, in the net competition and Mark win the under-14s gross with his 163 total to cap a fine day for the Letchworth Golf Club junior section.
