An early three-goal blitz saw Langford ease into the SSML Division One Cup final via a 3-1 last-four victory over a resurgent Hatfield Town at Forde Park this evening (Tuesday).

The Blueboys, boosted by four wins in their last six games in all competitions prior to the game, looked competitive for the opening few moments but were then stung by Pat Daly’s seventh-minute opener.

Player-manager Jason Penman found Daly in space at the far post and he poked past keeper Kieron Extence from five yards at the second attempt.

Four minutes later the advantage had been doubled.

A corner could only be cleared as far as James Potter and he thumped the ball in from 20 yards.

The two scorers then combined for number three in the 17th minute.

A wizardly touch from Potter put Daly in the clear and he made no mistake from 15 yards to double his evening’s tally.

Hatfield picked themselves up off the floor and battled hard to the half-time whistle and beyond and reduced their arrears in the 68th minute.

Darren O’Brien flicked into the path of strike partner Stefan Saywell and he half-volleyed at goal. Keeper Ross Tompkins got a hand on the vicious shot but the power took it beyond him and into the corner.

Substitute Paul Otim brought a super save from Tompkins, firing a volley from 20 yards, in added time but Hatfield’s chance of progression had all but been extinguished by then.

Langford will face either Division One leaders Harpenden Town or Wodson Park in the final.
