The England 1966 World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst praised a local team for their sportsmanship.
Baldock under-12 Templars met Sir Geoff when they won the coveted Fair Play Award at a national tournament in Mablethorpe over the bank holiday weekend.
After matches against clubs from Manchester, Teesside and South Yorkshire, the Templars were named most sporting team by the independent referees' panel. Coach Carl Kirkham said: "It would have been great to win the tournament but this makes up for any disappointment. It's a great tribute to the sporting attitude of all our players."
Sir Geoff said the Templars were a credit to their club when he handed over the trophy.
The lads face Letchworth Garden City Eagles Blues in the Royston Crow League Cup under-12 final this Sunday.
