Henlow narrowly failed to complete a notable double in their debut season in the Bedford Midweek Cricket League.

They lost by two wickets to Bedford Pakistanis in the final of the INSYS Cup at Kempston Hammers Sports Ground last Thursday evening.

Henlow, who had already clinched the Ted Bowen Division Four title, batted first and posted 99-8 off their 16 overs with only Nico Hand (25), Adrian Crawley (23) and Howard Phillips (15) reaching double figures.

Bedford Pakistanis made a flying start in response and were 57-1 off just six overs before a dramatic collapse saw seven wickets fall for 25 runs.

It was inspired by clever bowling by Kris Canagasabey (4-8) and Wayne Goldsmith (3-28) and at 82-8, Henlow were in the hunt.

But Bedford Pakistanis held their nerve and their number 10 hit three fours to win the game with eight balls to spare.

With no first XI game on Saturday and both Beds League matches rained off, the club's only weekend game saw the Saturday seconds beat their Blunham counterparts by two wickets.

Lee Ownsworth took 5-21 in his 10 overs as Blunham were dismissed for 151.

Wayne Bilcock top scored with 30 as Henlow slipped to 127-8 in reply but an unbeaten stand of 26 saw them home.
