The Hitchin Sunday Football League

As the rain fell and the wind blew, games across Comet country began to fall by the wayside but thankfully some games survived despite the conditions.

In the Herts Sunday Senior Cup, Kcinsatop travelled to Bedwell Athletic but goals from Rob Beckwith and Paul Donnelly could not stop them falling to a 4-2 defeat.

In the Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup third round, our sides had mixed fortunes.

Angels Reply were eliminated, losing 2-0 at Langleybury, while AEK Letchworth marched on, Micky Smith, Matt Wilson, Matt Bond, Calvin Rowley and Steve Smith scoring the goals that secured a 5-2 victory against Red Lion Hemel.

In the Challenge Cup first round, Crown Stotfold thumped Dynamo Letchworth 8-2 to secure a home tie against Engineers Henlow in the next round.

In the George John Memorial Trophy, HTS Barleycorn proved too strong for fellow Premier Division side The George Hitchin.

They ran out 6-1 winners, Greg King (two), Eddie Kemp (two), Chris Powell and Darren Phillipson scoring the goals. Their reward is a tie against another Premier Division side in round two, Bar Absolute Willian.

Kcinsatop Res gained revenge on HTS Barleycorn Res after the previous week's defeat as they won 5-3. Tony Wheatcroft, Chris Slattery, Karl Milligan (two) and Gareth Cottenden scored for Kcinsatop while Ben Gerrard (two) and Conn Warwicker replied for HTS Barleycorn Res.

Two Division One games survived the weather. Whitwell Res beat SMU 3-0 thanks to goals from John Harris (two) and David Fleckney.

Cannon Res took full advantage of SMU's slip-up and replaced them at the top of the table after a nervous 3-2 win against Ocean's XI, Ross Cook (two) and Nicky Bendon with the Cannon goals.

Despite the weather conditions, Division Two was able to complete a full set of fixtures.

George and Dragon remain top after demolishing Radcliffe Arms 6-1, Brian Pigram the Radcliffe scorer.

Grant Keller (two) and Ian Hyde were on hand to help The Park stay in second as they won 3-1 at Wanderers Res.

There was an avalanche of goals at Clifton as The Five Bells capitulated in the second half, losing 10-1.

Dan Bentley (four), Ross Woodbridge (three), Gavin Morris (two) and Alex Toy scored the goals for Shillington. The score could have been even worse for The Five Bells if it was not for some heroic goalkeeping by the Bells' shot stopper.

Neil Walker, Adrian Grocutt and Stewart Smith scored the goals on a windswept Grange as Wilbury were beaten 3-0 by North Herts Hatters.

Anthony Humphries led the charge with six of Paynes Park's 10 goals as they hammered SMU Res 10-2, an own goal and a Steven Oatmen hat-trick completing the scorers for Paynes Park.

Remember the name? Louis Healiss, prolific last year for JCA, has re-emerged at Baldock Sunday and has picked up where he left off last season.

His hat-trick and a goal from Dale Clark ensured Baldock continue to climb the table as they beat AC Malone Res 4-3, Kyle Stephenson and two goals from Simon Buck making up the Malones tally.
