Jimmy’s Jammin’ for Harts

JIMMY Lewis scored a fabulous hat-trick as Blueharts played out a 10-goal thriller against league leaders Peterborough.

Harts started well and nearly scored within the first minute through an impressive Matt Garner reverse stick strike.

Five minutes later, a short corner was awarded and Colin Burnell fired home for the second week in a row.

Then another short corner was awarded and some neat play in the circle set up Lewis for his first of the day.

Lewis turned provider as a great run down the right wing saw him fire in a cross for Ashley Hammond to expertly finish with a first-time shot.

More pressure resulted in another penalty corner. Lewis was first to react to the rebound off the goalie to score his second.

With just 20 minutes gone, Harts were 4-0 up and cruising. But disaster struck as the umpire pulled up lame and the game was stopped for 15 minutes while he received treatment.

Peterborough composed themselves, subbed their goalie, and got a dressing down from their manager.

They pulled three goals back before he break to cut Harts' lead.

Peterborough scored twice within 10 minutes of the restart and Harts looked like they had blown all their hard work.

But Harts took the fight back to their opposition and were rewarded in the dying minutes of the game.

Man of the match Lewis followed up an Andy Slack shot, and after a goalmouth scramble, put the ball into the back of the net to score his third.

Ecstatic Harts celebrated their best result of the season at the final whistle.

The first XI beat the seconds 3-1 in a battle of the two Letchworth teams.

A niggly game saw three players sin-binned (Nick Cole and Damian Pitts from the second XI and Dave Gentry from the first).

The firsts led 1-0 at half-time after a penalty flick was converted by Gentry.

The second XI were also awarded a penalty but Ian Crosse was unfortunate in hitting the post.

Matt Scott and Ian Heywood also scored for the first XI, while the pick of the goals in the game was from Tom Butler who rounded the goalkeeper and shot in from an acute angle.

Ashley Brown's hat-trick helped the thirds beat Shefford and Sandy 3-1.

The fourths cemented their position at the top of the table by beating Harpenden 3-2 (Kevin Smith two and Ben Abbott).

Gary Pond's goal for the fifths was cancelled out by leaders Bedford 5ths.

Stevenage went down to defeat in a seven-goal thriller at league leaders Berkhamsted.

Captain Danny Blackburn rifled the ball home to give his team an early advantage from a short corner.

It became quite a open game with both sides creating chances, the best falling to Rob Cornell whose effort was brilliantly saved by the Berko keeper. Two quick counter attacks from the home side gave them a 2-1 advantage in the closing stages of the half.

In the second half, Stevenage were rewarded for their persistence with a fantastic goal from Rob Cornell after good pressure from David Fisk.

Berko regained the lead before Mike Oliver lobbed the keeper with a stylish finish to get the visitors back on level terms.

Both teams had chances to win the game but it was Berko that took all three points late on. Stevenage lost possession in the centre of the park late on with players out of position and a quick attack resulted in the winner.

The seconds won by the odd goal in five against Hertford, while the thirds were beaten 3-1 by Hertford 2nds (Paul Youster).

The fifths beat Berko 4ths 5-3 thanks to Ian Brown's hat-trick and goals for Seb Rose and Bobby Baulard-Cato.

Martin Swarbrick's treble saw the sixths win for the first time this season and in a local derby against their Letchworth counterparts.

MBDA were edged out in a seven-goal thriller by Broxbourne 5ths.

Broxbourne took the lead but MBDA drew level before half-time, with the first of two goals by Parry Rao.

Vinod Mistry - a first goal of the season - and a second for Rao ensured MBDA equalised twice more after the break. Broxbourne continued to press and finally scored the winner late on.
