STEVENAGE skipper Dave Car must have regretted winning the toss and electing to bat on a drying wicket at Ditchmore Lane on Saturday.

But not even he could have envisaged how the afternoon would be dominated by the bowlers, with Radlett's South african paceman Shane Burger being in such devastating form.

Burger was the star of the day in the sunshine claiming a record haul of 8-43 as he completely destroyed the Stevenage batting line-up sending three players back to the pavilion for ducks.

After Carr had gone for 10 the batting line-up collapsed with only Gareth Berg (26), Naseer Ahmed (11) and Afzal (14) and Azhar Ali (13) showing only minor resistance.

In a very short time the Stevenage innings was over with a miserable 85 runs on the board that looked a simple total for Radlett to beat.

But it was then Stevenage's bowling attack to take advantage of the easy wicket that was still drying from recent rain.

Sayed Kazmi was quick to make an early breakthrough sending both openers back to the pavilion with less then 10 on the board.

Wickets continued to tumble leaving Radlett reeling on 41-7, and the game began to sway back in Stevenage's favour.

But Radlett's tail wagged vigorously and the visitors just managed to creep home to secure victory and the full quota of points on 86-7 with Kazmi finishing on 4-32 and Ali with respectable figures of 3-17.

Stevenage 2nds gave debuts to Sohail Idress, Saeed Ali and Barry Hann in their game against Wheathampstead.

Wheathamstead were put into bat on a green wicket and Stevenage's fielding always kept them in command.

Tight bowling from Burroughes and Brown meant Wheathampstead were always struggling to fund runs and they were finally all out for 146.

Brown finished with figures of 3-20, Idress 3-40 and Dattani 3-28.

Stevenage's response got off to poor start with opener Neville caught for just a single.

But Hann and Idress then began to dominate the Wheathampstead bowling with the later scoring freely to all corners of the ground.

In completing his maiden 100 for the club Idress thumped two tremendous sixes to seal victory for Stevenage to complete a remarkable day following his three wicket haul.

Stevenage 3rds swept aside Cheshunt 2nds thanks to a six wicket haul from Rhys Stewart.

Stevenage had found it difficult to find runs and were all out for 128 with Adil Zargar top scoring on 52 and Laurie Brown contributing 31 and Tony Start 21.

Cheshunt never looked like finding a winning total and were all out for 101 with Stewart taking 6-35.

Stevenage 4ths went down against North Mymms 4ths.

Batting first, Mymms scored 179-9 but Stevenage response finished on 143 all out.
