The Comet Stevenage Sunday League

THE plot has thickened in The Comet Stevenage Sunday League after another club has been found guilty of fielding ineligible players.

The culprits are Pin Green who thought they had completed the Double in Division Three last Tuesday night by winning the cup by a closer margin than most may have predicted.

Colin Field gave them the lead with a cool lob over the oncoming keeper from 18 yards before Richard Griffiths scored when he struck the bar with his initial header before following in to nod home.

Steven Young was denied a goal for Fox by the offside flag as was Field before Greg Bradbury pulled one back in the last 10 minutes.

Pin Green were also due to look forward to the KLM Challenge Cup final against Dun Cow but the committee has found them guilty of signing ineligible players.

They have been stripped of the league title and Hogshead are deemed champions.

The Division Three Cup champions are now Fox and Dun Cow take the KLM Challenge Cup by default.

It really has been a season riddled with foul play.

The ID cards should help to stem this next season if voted back in at the annual meeting.

In what was now their final game of existence, Dun Cow took the glory and a third win in four meetings over the season against Premier Division champions Nirankari Sports Sabha in the divisional cup final.

Shaun Marshall grabbed the only goal in the first minute for the men in white. Nirankari had chances but goalkeeper Scott Waters stood firm. They were also denied a penalty late on as well as a goal by the assistant's flag in a keenly contested match.

The league's annual meeting is on Monday, June 5 at the Chells Park Sports Hall (8pm start).
