THREE ice skaters from Hitchin have led their team to national gold.

Pat Loosemore, Lin Morris and Fiona Warner were part of the Lee Valley Ice Centre team from Leyton which became the new UK adult synchronised skating champions.

Loosemore is captain of the team and Morris her vice-captain.

The Sheffield championships last Monday saw Lee Valley's adult team 'Ice Passion' (aged 21 to retirement) emerge victorious.

And the Lee Valley Ice Centre now holds three out of a possible seven prestigious national titles for synchronised skating.

The teams travel from all over London and the South East to train exclusively at Lee Valley Ice Centre.

It is a regional centre of excellence for the South East of England and has been training synchronised dance teams for more than 10 years.

P A schoolboy from Letchworth Garden City returned home with the silver medal from the British In Line Speed Skating Championships.

Jordan Thomas was runner-up at Spalding on Sunday in the 800m of the under-12 section.

The John Henry Newman School pupil was racing for the Eastern Region Roller Speed Association which is headed by Malcolm Chapman from Stevenage.

He was paired in the semi-final with the current champion and favourite for the title and finished second to him.

In the final, he slipped at the start and was near the back of the field of seven by the end of the first lap.

The 12-year-old showed great speed and determination to race through the field into second but could not catch the champion who retained his title.

Jordan's next outing is a British League race on April 15.
