RUMOURS of the demise of Hitchin Town Ladies have been grossly exaggerated.

But the ladies are in urgent need of players and require half a dozen new faces by the end of August after losing some key players at the end of last season.

Secretary Heidi Nash said: "There are a number of reasons why we have lost players.

"Some players have moved up to play at a higher level, some have stopped because of work commitments and some have moved because of rumours that we are folding."

The ladies were quick to point out that talk of their demise is purely "idle gossip".

Nash continued: "We didn't have a good season by our standards last season but we are still a very successful club - we have won promotion in four of the last five seasons."

The ladies train on Tuesday nights at Norton Road from 7.30pm. Interested parties should call Heidi Nash on 01438 722062.
