Hitchin Town made it 10 wins from 10 games on Tuesday as they booked a second cup final place after Jonny McNamara’s second half effort.
The midfielder grabbed the only goal as Town defeated National League South St Albans City in the Herts Charity Cup semi-final at Clarence Park.
Hitchin are also into the Herts Senior Cup final.
The match-winner, who is back with the Canaries for an initial month from Hemel Hempstead Town, told the Comet: “It’s nice to get into another final, winning breeds confidence, that’s 10 wins in a row now for us in all competitions.
“You want to be in finals, you want to be in those big games, that’s why you play football.”
In what is shaping up to be a season to remember, Mark Burke’s side also sit third in the Southern League Premier Division table with games in hand on those above them.
McNamara spoke of the importance of every game regardless of the competition.
“Everyone always focuses on the league of course, but it’s always nice to have the little bonus on the side, something to celebrate, hopefully, at the end of the season,” he said.
“If you don’t play well in these [cup] games it can knock confidence, so it’s nice to keep it going.
“You bring these wins into training on Thursday, nice camaraderie, and then into Saturday.
“If you bring that winning mentality into every game and training session hopefully you can keep the form going.”
Of his temporary return to Top Field, McNamara added: “I had a little spell away, it’s nice to be back, the first two weeks we had games postponed so it was my first 90 minutes today [Tuesday]. It felt nice and I got a goal as well so I’m buzzing about that.”
Hitchin host Frome Town in the league at Top Field this Saturday, before a trip to second-placed Merthyr Town on Tuesday night.
