Get ready for the latest cheeky calendar from Hitchin Ladies Rugby Club – all for a great cause to raise funds for the Target Ovarian Cancer charity.

The side, which are breaking records on the pitch with their excellent start to the season, have also been empowering women off the turf.

The talented team, who play their matches at King George V Playing Fields on Old Hale Way in the town, saw their first set of snaps create a global sensation two years ago.

Their efforts went viral in 2016 after US rap superstar 50Cent told his 40 million followers on his Facebook page: ‘That’s one way to raise money’ after their admirable efforts to raise funds for the club and charity.

The team are having a launch party at the popular Victoria Pub in Ickleford Road in Hitchin tonight from 7pm where fans will be able to meet the team, buy a calendar and even sign up to the ever-growing club.

On the field they continued their exceptional start after the first XV advanced to the next round of the cup following a dominant 49-10 win over Bishop Stortford on Sunday.

The Hedgehogs were out of sight with 20 minutes played thanks to a Charley Hamilton hat-trick and a Nicky Cameron try.

Stortford scored on a rare foray but further tries from Katie Allerton and captain Emma Cramphorn gave Hitchin a commanding lead at half-time.

Cameron picked up her second try after the break, with Suzie Gajda-Hilton and Sarah Bennett getting on the scoresheet, before the visitors managed a consolation try in the final seconds.

Despite the biting cold, a good crowd gathered at Hitchin Rugby Club to cheer the ladies on, including sponsors Mason Navarro Pledge as well as female-led investment management firm Raymond James, who are keen to support women’s rugby.

The Hitchin-based firm have signed up as sponsors for three years and have the name of their company plastered on the team shorts.

Branch principal Faye Silver said: “They’re a great team and really lovely people who do a lot for our community.

“It’s been fun trying to come up with a few puns as our logo is on the rear of their shorts. ‘Supporting the bottom line’ is our favourite, closely followed by ‘protecting your best assets’.”
