History is made by the Riverain ladies

The ladies from Riverain Bowls Club have reached the first team final in the club's history.

The final will be at Desborough, Northants, on Sunday, March 25. This is after they overcame Cambridge Chesterton in the semi-finals of the Vivienne Trophy by just three shots (78-75).

The home teams of Joyce Rolph, Kathy Maxwell, Jean Hayward and skip Shirley Houghton together with Joyce Chapman, Mary Cole, Mina Reid and skip Anne Graves won by 14 shots (44-30).

This was enough as the away teams of Sharon Allen, Pat Smith, Marjorie Emery and skip Barbara Eddington together with Enid Newman, Barbara Turner, Dorothy Whitlock and skip Diane Porter lost by 11 shots (34-45).

Riverain's Shirley Page and Heather Stapleford reached the finals of the pairs at the Ladies' National Championships at Loddon Vale.

They were beaten by Chris Gowshall and Amy Monkhouse (Lough) by nine shots (12-21).

This was after beating Ely 18-13 in the semis and defeating Egham 20-12 and Welford on Avon 21-13 in earlier rounds.

The two wood triple team of Linda O'Flanagan, Shay Mumford and skip Gill Walker went out in the first round to the eventual winners from Madeira (12-25).

A full six points were won by the ladies of Riverain in their county league match against Watford. Riverain won by 14 shots overall (43-29).

The teams were Joyce Rolph, Jessie Little, June Clay and skip Shirley Hughes together with Jean Lock, Barbara Turner, Joan Welch and skip Barbara Clark.

Riverain lost by 31 shots (132-101) against Lawson Park in a weekday friendly match.

Skips only: Anne Graves lost 17-18, Sam Skinner lost 11-27, Ivan Izzard won 23-11, Wally Chandler lost 19-26, Don Edwards won 20-15, Charlie Brown lost 7-35.

And they were beaten by 13 shots (150-163) by Falcon in a weekend friendly.

Skips only: John Alden won 23-21, J Smith won 23-18, Jim Baird lost 10-21, Ron Lock lost 17-25, Ivan Izzard won 22-18, Mick Judd lost 16-25, Bob Wells won 19-17, Dave Webb won 20-18.

Riverain won by 29 shots (74-45) in a weekend evening match against Welwyn and District.

Skips only: Geoff Sullivan drew 13-13, Tom Power won 31-5, Andrew Greenall lost 8-15, Les Parsley won 22-12.
