FOUR local players are in the Hertfordshire county cricket squad for their opening two games in the one-day trophy.

Hitchin captain Dave Moore will be joined by the Knebworth Park duo of Tom Jenkins and Tony Skeggs as well as new captain Andy Lewis who lives near Datchworth.

Herts will boast a potent and spectacular new-ball attack when they open their season against Cambridgeshire at March this Sunday.

Aaron Laraman, who has joined the county after spells at Middlesex and Somerset, will link up with Nick Walker, who has just returned from a two-year stint with Derbyshire.

They will be the spearhead of a strong-looking Herts team for the first two games in the Minor Counties one-day competition.

After the Cambs match, Herts have their first home outing of the season against Wiltshire at Radlett the following Sunday (May 7).

Skipper Lewis is expecting exciting times ahead and he said: "The one-day competition side looks very strong on paper. All we need now is to transfer that to the pitch."

Laraman and Walker will be backed up in the seam bowling department by Moore, Welwyn Garden City's Simon White and for the game at Radlett, Skeggs, who has returned to the club of his youth Knebworth Park after a long period at Welwyn GC.

Young wicketkeeper/batsman Jenkins will be taking this pace attack.

The games start at 11am and Lewis would love to see a sizeable crowd, especially at Radlett a week on Sunday.

"There are hundreds of people who play and watch weekend cricket throughout the Herts clubs," he said.

"It would be great if the county team could tap into some of this love of the game by being a side that people want to come and watch."
