Blueharts took all three points in a seven-goal thriller as they hosted Broxbourne.

Harts started well and within the first five minutes were awarded a penalty stroke after good interchange play up front. John Barrett stepped up and expertly converted.

Broxbourne drew level midway through the half after a short corner rebound was not dealt with.

Harts were playing the better hockey and a good move saw Jimmy Lewis break through from the right and smash the ball into the roof of the net enabling them to lead at the break.

They continued to apply the pressure after the restart and should have gone 3-1 up but Lewis failed to hit the target from point blank range.

Broxbourne soon scored as another short corner resulted in their second.

Minutes later, Harts were awarded a penalty corner of their own, Oliver Hammond scoring a great captain's goal to give Harts the lead again.

A quick break and some slack marking saw Broxbourne score their third and draw level once more.

With five minutes remaining, Harts were awarded another penalty corner.

Colin Burnell, the senior player of the team, held his nerve and fired a soft drag flick straight through the goalkeeper's legs to win the game.

Great performances at the back from Matt Gardner and Gillan Ide laid the foundations from which Harts could play with such attacking flair.

The seconds won easily against the league's basement side Old Southendians.

Tim Price started the scoring with a deflection from James Moore's shot.

With Harts wasteful in attack, Old Southendians got a goal against the run of play from a short corner just before half time.

The second half was all Blueharts as they commanded possession and created numerous chances.

Price grabbed two more deserved goals and Dan Drew scored a cracker from a wonderful team move.

It was an excellent weekend for Letchworth as the firsts to fourths all won and the fifths drew.

The first team won 4-0 against Broxbourne seconds.

A disappointing 1-0 defeat away at Upminster saw Stevenage drop two places in Division Two South. Under-strength due to injury and illness, Stevenage were hopeful of at least a draw.

The opening spell of hockey saw Upminster slide a ball past a prostrate Tim Dingley, after the keeper found his legs disappearing from under him on a particularly slippery pitch.

No amount of pressure from the visiting side came near the opposition goal, even though Stevenage decided attack was the best form of defence. Their focus is now firmly on a home game against league leaders Vauxhall this Saturday.

Other scores: Stevenage II 5 (Crocker hat-trick, Taylor, Siggins) Cheshunt 2; Berkhamsted III 1 Stevenage III 4; Stevenage VI 9 (Mahmood, Phoenix, Shearman, Ian Brown hat-trick, Miller, Fisher, Jackson) Blueharts V 4; Stevenage VI 1 (Davies) Hertford IV 1.

MBDA triumphed 3-2 against Rickmansworth 3rds in a fairly scrappy game. Four goals were shared in a frantic 15 minutes of the first half.

MBDA twice equalised, Paul Lawman latching on to a brilliant Chris Hose pass across the keeper and Austin Mahoney adding the second equaliser from close range.

For the second half, MBDA tightened up their defence, but it took until five minutes from time to score the winner.

A goalmouth scramble allowed Ross Revers to score his first for the club and secure all the points.
