FVS TRI's Steve Harrison was invited to join the elite race at the Windsor Triathlon over the weekend.

The Trisports supported athlete was racing at the elite level for the first time.

He was in good company with the race attracting a top field of triathletes who represent Great Britain on the World Cup circuit and also raced in the Athens Olympics.

The event based in The Thames and around the grounds of Windsor Castle is recognised as the best race in the country and was won by Olympian Tim Don in 1-52:44.

Steve finished in 25th from 49 elite starters in a respectable time of 2-00:06, a time good enough to win the age group event which had run earlier with the winner recording a time 2-02:09 from 1,533 starters.

In the earlier age group race, FVS TRI was represented by five athletes.

James Grierson was first home in 2-23:07 followed by James Brooks in his first Olympic distance event in a superb time of 2-25:57.

Danny McGuigan also completed his first Olympic distance in a time of 2-38:33.

Matt Hickman competed in his first race for FVS TRI finishing the shorter sprint event in 1-50:50.

Simon Hall and Sam Tophill raced the Wantage Triathlon in Oxfordshire based around an 800m pool swim, 35k hilly bike and 12k run.

Sam was first female vet in 2-21:24 and Simon was third senior male in a time of 2-02:34 despite being knocked over by a dog on the run section and finishing the event with a shoe full of blood!

Dave Coard improved his Olympic personal best with 2-30:40 at the Shropshire Triathlon.

* Michael Summers competed in the 130k Nick Clark Memorial Race hosted by Kenton Road Cycling Club.

He managed 14th overall after a final bunch sprint on the seven and a half lap event and added a further nine points towards the coveted category one status.

Kevin Smart and Tim Smith completed the testing White Rose Classic Sportive ride based in Otley, North Yorkshire.

Kevin finished an excellent 10th overall in a time of 5-23:59 for the 130k option. Tim completed the longer 170k event in a time of 7-38:50 to finish 178th overall.

John Burgess had a busy week breaking 25 minutes for the first time at the Ashwell CC Midweek 10 mile time trial to record 24:59 and then he raced the Southend Half Marathon in blistering heat to record 1-40:47.

* Three members of FVS TRI went to Milton Keynes to compete in the Summer Duathlon with Sean Bradley winning the junior event in 59:24.

Making his competitive debut, Kevin Bradley - Sean's dad! - finished in a time of 1-12:44.

First home for the club and fifth vet overall was Dave Coard in a superb time of 56:24.
