* The final round of the Chiltern cross-country league took place at Wing, near Leighton Buzzard.

Adam Welham did well to finish strongly in 29th place from a large field in the under-11 boys.

The under-13 girls' race was a good one for the club. New recruit Chelsea McKenzie finished first in Division Two and was backed up by Laura Gilbert in seventh and Melissa Sergent in 12th. They were rewarded with second team place for this round.

In the girls' under-15 race, Alice Gomersall improved her position to 12th.

The combined under-17/under-20 ladies' race went even better than the under-13s.

In the under-20 category Aileen Russell finished third, ensuring third place for the series. While in the under-17s, Alice Middleton finished 2nd in this round and overall for the series. For this round only, they were the first team.

In the senior/vet ladies' race, Karen Worrall was laid low with a virus and was not able to compete. But her results over the rest of the series were enough for her to finish second veteran and second senior lady.

For the men, despite excellent runs by Lee Welham (21st), Gavin Elliott (35th) and Ken Prior (44th and fourth V50), the team could only manage ninth place.

* Four men from the club ran at the Stamford Valentine's 30k road race on Sunday. Results: Andy Bruce 153rd 2-16:46, Chris Clarke 209th 2-23:38, Paul Batson 343rd 2-38:28, Tony Haymes 350th 2-39:14.

* Simon Fawcett also ran the Wokingham half-marathon on Sunday. He finished in 117th place in a time of 1-24, improving by 4:51 on his previous best half-marathon time.
