The talented Wilshere-Dacre Junior Academy Year 6 football team have been celebrating this week after triumphing in a hard-fought Hitchin schools knock-out tournament.

The side, led by teacher and coach Dean Horsley, beat off competition from 12 other schools affiliated to the Hitchin and District Primary Schools FA to lift the coveted shield.

The entire tournament had been played in a tremendous spirit both on and off the pitch and was watched my more than 100 parents and family.

HDPSFA secretary Phil Hart told Comet Sport: “It’s wonderful so many schools choose to attend the events we host. We’re lucky to have such supportive staff in our schools whose dedication, commitment and energy really benefit the children.

“Each season, the standard of play improves and we see more and more players participating”.

Mr Horsley added “I’m really proud of the boys.”
