A GOAL just after half-time from Neil Pugh and a second from Aaran Cavill five minutes from time put Hitchin Town in control of their Southern League Premier Division clash at Merthyr Tydfil. The home side pulled back a consolation but it was too late to prevent The Canaries coming away from South Wales with a 2-1 win.

Ozie Foster struck early in the second half to earn Arlesey Town a 1-1 draw in their Southern League, Division One East, home clash with Wingate & Finchley.

In the Minerva Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division, a goal from Robert Groves was only a consolation as struggling Langford went down 3-1 at second placed Harefield United. Warren Grieve was on target for Biggleswade Town but it was too late to prevent them going down by the same score to Hanwell Town, while Biggleswade United played out a goalless draw with Tring Athletic.

Eagle Bitter United Counties League Premier Division leaders Potton United struggled to beat lowly Harrowby 2-1 thanks to goals from Ian Morrison and Colin Shambrook. Stotfold battled back from two down to draw 2-2 with Wootton in their mid-table clash. Player manager Jim Benton and Paul Harrington earned a point for Stotfold.
