Timlin is Boro boss Dino Maamria’s fifth summer signing, as the 33-year-old joins after seven years and 253 appearances for the Shrimpers.

The Boro faithful may remember the experienced midfielder from the League Two play-off semi-final 1-1 draw with Southend at the Lamex in 2015.

The tie was stopped for eight minutes in the first half after Timlin clashed heads with Boro captain Bira Dembele. Timlin required 15 stitches to fix a gruesome head wound before being substituted.

The former Republic of Ireland under-23 international, who scored 14-goals for the Shrimpers, will be a Stevenage player on the 1st July.

Stevenage Chairman Phil Wallace said, “We have all worked hard to make this happen.

“We needed an experienced head in central midfield to help our young players develop and our signings in this window will continue to reflect a balance between more experienced pros and younger, exciting lads full of potential.”
