Darren Sarll has been sacked as boss of Stevenage FC. But who do YOU want in charge? We sent Rosie Tudball down to the Lamex to canvass fans opinions and check out the latest on social media.
Speculation has been rife on who will take over at the League Two club with a number of big names being mentioned including Paul Ince and Sol Campbell – but the general consensus among Boro fans is that they want someone who knows the club inside out rather than another Teddy Sheringham.
Stevenage supporter, Pete, who spoke to CometSport on Monday morning at the Lamex was adamant he wanted Dino Maamria.
He said: “I’d like to see Dino come back, as a player he always had a good association and always got on well with the fans.
“He’s the only one really in the frame that I’d like to see.
“Somebody who knows the club and has it in their heart and knows and gets on well with the supporters.”
Stevenage fans on social media have also favoured the popular Maamria, with the current Nuneaton Town boss clear favourite with a number of Boro supporters.
Ian Coles @IanC1959 wrote: “Dino is the stand out candidate..Seems able to work with a small budget and get the best out of his players”, while Tom @Tom_WD added: “Think Dino should be the next manager.”
Following Sarll’s sacking on Sunday, CometSport understands supremo Phil Wallace is set to meet with Maarmria with a view to offering him the job.
However, with the news of graham Westley’s departure from Barnet on Monday some fans are pining for the former Broadhall Way boss to return for a fourth spell.
Westley, who led Boro to the playoffs three years ago, is a favoured candidate amongst some supporters, with Will @willgreen86 stating firmly: “Westley...probably only man for it.”
