Dino Maamria’s delight at Stevenage’s excellent 2-0 away win at Blundell Park against Grimsby has been tempered by his evident disappointment at the inury to QPR loanee Ililas Chair boss Dino Maamria
Stevenage beat Grimsby Town 2-0 at Blundell Park in their League Two clash on Saturday.
A Kurtis Guthrie brace sealed the points for Dino Maamria’s Boro after another excellent performance from QPR loanee Ilias Chair in front of 3,689 fans including 112 from North Herts.
The result gave Maamria’s Boro a boost after they travelled to Cleethorpes looking to bounce back after their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Notts County last week - even if a thigh injury to Chair dampened spirits slightly.
Maamria was unhappy after the talented Chair was forced to hobble off in the second half, saying: “I would like some protection from referees because Ilias is the best player in League Two and I want him to be protected.
“We know what he’s capable of. Teams have started targeting him. You don’t mind them marking him but when they go after him off the ball I want the referee to see that. We didn’t even get a yellow card awarded.
“He’s got done after the ball and we need to see how he is. I’m disappointed he was targeted. I’m disappointed he didn’t get enough protection.
“It was his ankle. We’re hoping it’s not too serious. It’s just bruised and hopefully he will be ok for next week [against Carlisle at the Lamex].
