Stevenage boss Dino Maamria has hailed his team after their excellent 3-1 victory over visitors Exeter City on Saturday.

Alex Revell was the star of the show with a hat-trick, pouncing twice in the first half and once after the break.

His first came on 14 minutes with a cool finish after being set up by strike partner Matty Godden while the second arrived 17 minutes later after he put pressure on Exeter goalkeeper Christy Pym’s clearance, leaving him with a simple tap-in.

And the treble was wrapped up three minutes after the break.

Pierce Sweeney pulled one back from the spot 12 minutes from time and Exeter also hit the bar shortly after but nothing was going to deny Stevenage a deserved three points.

Speaking after the match Maamria said of his side’s performance: “It was brilliant! I loved it, This has been the most enjoyable game since I took over.

“I thought despite all the problems we have had on the training ground this week, the lads were terrific, absolutely terrific.

“That is the type of football I want. On the front foot, attack after attack, after attack. We were relentless going forward.

“As a squad we all stepped up to the plate. I thought Ronnie Henry was terrific at centre back. He led the line really well with a big voice, but we had lots of legs today and lots of energy.

“We had a young team. We had loads of energy. Every time we went forward we looked like scoring a goal and that is the type of football I want.”

Maamria also had words of praise for the club’s loyal fans as Boro completed their home league programme after a long and at times difficult season.

He said: “I thought they were brilliant, from the first minute they were backing the players until the end of the game.

“It is my responsibility to take the club forward and I have just got to make sure I bring the happy times back to the Lamex.”
