The under-13 footballers from The Nobel School in Stevenage are through to the last eight in the regional stages of a prestigious national competition.

They won 3-2 against King John School in the first round of The Minute Maid South East Schools' Cup (boys).

Nobel recovered after the visitors went two goals up in 10 minutes. Then in the 30th minute, against the run of play, midfielder Reece Loudon made a strong run down the left, outpaced the defence and scored a tremendous individual effort into the bottom corner.

Sub Ben Murphy evened the score up after the break as he made a strong burst into the box and beat two defenders to score. Five minutes later, captain Greg Butler scored the winner from a free-kick taken by Reece Loudon.

Nobel continued to press with Chris Kennet unlucky as a long range shot came back off the bar.

They play Chalfonts Community College from Buckinghamshire in the next round.
