After two postponed matches Stotfold finally for their 2016 games underway, and they did so in style with a 5-3 victory over Leverstock Green.
It was a much-changed Stotfold side from the one they put out in their last game due to injury, illness, suspensions and holidays, and for the opening 23 minutes they were put under pressure from Green though Adam Harpur in the home goal had, in truth, little to do.
At the other end Ben L’Honore’s free-kick hit the Green wall, and Michael Simpson followed up to strike his shot into the top corner for 1-0.
Another ser piece on the right followed, and this time L’Honore beat the keeper with his free-kick.
Stotfold were now on the up, and L’Honore got his second of the game from another free-kick just after the half-hour mark.
A rare foray into the Stotfold box led to a Green penalty, which was put away after Harper had brought down the striker.
Stotfold then hit back in stoppage time when a corner from the right was cleared to Ashley Fitton, and he dropped his shoulder and let fly into the bottom corner for 4-1.
In the second period Leverstock struck back as they worked their way to within a goal of Stotfold.
They made it 4-2 when a free-kick bobbled towards Harpur, and the goalkeeper spilt the ball for a tap-in.
Not long afterwards a slip in the Stotfold defence gifted Leverstock another chance to score, and they did so to move to within a goal of the Eagles.
Leverstock sensed an equaliser, but it was not to be as Stotfold, and L’Honore, had one more goal in them.
The move began 12 minutes from time when a slide rule pass from Jaiden Irish fed in L’Honore and he beat the offside trap and slotted home for a 5-3 win.
