Damon Lathrope’s talented Hitchin Town U18s side beat Barking U18s 1-0 in the FA Youth Cup preliminary round at Top Field on Tuesday evening. Read on for Layth Yousif’s PLAYER RATINGS

Hitchin Town U18:

Sam Simpson: 7 - Brave and courageous. A good organiser with a vocal presence. Made an excellent point blank save on the second half from No9 Gaspa. Everyone at Top Field wishes young Sam well after suffering concussion as the gutsy and fearless teenager raced out of his goal to block an onrushing forward.

Ben Hayward: 7 - A captain’s performance on a testing evening

Ryan Wing: 7 - A committed performance but needs to work on his distribution

Rueben Kestler: 7.5 - The former Luton academy teenager scored an excellent goal on 17 minutes after winning the ball in midfield before driving on to rifle home from 20 yards

Liam Tyler: 7 - Held firm in the backline to repel the lively Barking forwards

Gabriel Andrews: 7.5 - Excellent pace, positioning and anticipation. Showed superb awareness to deny the Barking attack with a last ditch tackle moments before the break

Nathan Gibbard: 7 - Good technique in the heart of battle before he was replaced by Miles

Cameron Edwards: 7 - Put in a shift as he and his team-mates dug in

Aiden Wright: 7 - Worked hard on a filthy night before being replaced by Turkan

Charlie Moss: 7 - Attacking forays constantly troubled the Barking backline even if his end product was a mixed bag. Unlucky to hit the post late on

Alfie Cooper: 7.5 - Played left back last season - which showed as his defensive work was faultless as he worked hard tracking back and being solid in the tackle

Harvey Deans: 7 - The former Hitchin Boys’ School pupil came on for the unfortunate Simpson and showed a safe pair of hands as the rain lashed down

Nathan Miles 7 - On for Gibbard after the lengthy injury stoppage to Simpson

Barking U18s

Jack Barber: 6.5 - A good organiser on a difficult night. Showed good anticpation to block on several occasions but could he have done more to prevent the goal?

Tesleem Babalola: 7 - Looked to supplement attacks when the time was right

Lateef Adeyemi: 7 - A threat offensively while patrolling his flank diligently when conducting his defensive duties

Joshua Owoaje 7 - A solid presence in the visitors backline

Eindras Galdikas: 7.5 - Tall for his age but good on the deck while alert when mopping up danger. Cultured centre-half

Marcus Fadina: 6.5 - Not afraid to spray the ball long but perhaps should aim to be less ambitious. Should be applauded for showing vision

James Runham: 7.5 - A promising left foot but needs to work on his distribution. Nearly scored a superb late goal with an acrobatic effort which flew narrowly wide

Leo Gaspa: 6.5 - should have scored when presented with a close range shot early in the second half but keeper Simpsom pulled off a great reflex save

Haile Richards: 6.5 - Not as influential as he would have liked. Subbed for Lecaj after the lengthy stoppage

Kieran Moynihan: 6.5 - Lively without penetration

Mason Williams: 7 - Quick feet when taking on the Canaries backline

Butrint Lecaj; 7 - On for Richards

Stratilla Robert: N/A - Little time to make an impact after replacing Fadima late on

Sameer Pun N/A - On for the skilful left-footer Runham late on with moments remaining
