Stevenage Football Club's U18's notched a hugely impressive 5-1 victory at Fleetwood Town in the third round of the prestigious FA Youth Cup this week.
The talented teens played at the League Two Lancashire’s club’s stadium Highbury on Monday evening and impressed everyone present with their performance.
A first half penalty by Andronicos Georgiou after a foul in the box following a superb pass from Ben Wilmot.
On 65 minutes the promising forward then played a great ball through for Drilon Krasniqi to run on and slot past the keeper to make it 2-0.
Six minutes later Marcus Gouldbourne won the ball in the centre and played in Georgiou who rifled his effort into the roof of the net to make it 3-0. Liam Smyth then made it 4-0 on 87 minutes. Fleetwood grabbed a consolation before Georgiou made it 5-1 with an ‘Andronicus hattrickus’ and six goals in three games in the competition so far.
Speaking to the Stevenage FC website after the game, head coach Jorden Gibson said: “I was really disappointed in the first half.
“I don’t think we pressed anywhere near to the standards we expect at this football club but I think we managed to sort it out at half-time and in the second half they came out and did really well. I am really pleased and really proud of them.
“As the game went on, we got stronger and stronger and that has been a hallmark of this team in the competition so far.”
Boro will face either Bolton or Middlesbrough in the fourth round, who face each other on Tuesday evening.
