Herts Senior Centenary Trophy

Letchworth GC Eagles were crowned Senior Trophy champions after coming from two goals down to beat Belstone.

There were five goals in total, but all came in the second period after the first-half had finished goalless.

Belstone took the lead when, on 50 minutes, a loose bobbling ball was blasted into the net from 10 yards. Moments later it was 2-0 following another clean strike through a group of defenders.

Eagles pushed Ricky Small up field and introduced Dami Fajiobi, which gave more width.

A free-kick by Carl Williams was well saved and then Fajiobi headed over the keeper but the ball trickled wide of a post.

On 70 minutes a free-kick by Mitchell Cox was collected by Rickie Small near the penalty and his low hard shot looked destined for the net until it was brilliantly saved by the keeper.

The goal that had been threatened finally came when Small headed the ball on from a Cox corner on to Paul McGennity who managed to force the ball into the net from a few yards out.

On 80 minutes the Eagles were awarded a penalty for a handball by a Belstone defender stopping the ball from entering the net.

He was shown a red card, and Williams fired home the penalty low into the corner of the net for 1-1.

The winner came five minutes from the end when veteran striker John Coley volleyed the ball from a couple of yards inside the penalty area into the top corner of the net giving Thomas no chance.
