THERE were two special reasons to celebrate at Biggleswade United's end of season presentation night.

The Beds senior and intermediate county cups were proudly on display at the St Andrews Hall on Saturday.

Reserve team player Gareth Boness was the talk of the club after making a clean sweep of the reserve team awards together with the supporters' player of the year award.

The striker notched 49 goals in an outstanding season and collected the reserve team players' player, manager's player and leading goalscorer.

First team player Robbie O'Dell was presented with the first team manager's player and the first team leading goalscorer with 26 goals to his credit.

The club's most coveted award went to United skipper Gary Jackson who took the first team players' player.

Assistant manager Nick Burton was awarded the sportsman of the year and committee member and match secretary Heather Rennie received the clubperson of the year.

Eighteen-year-old Steve Purton was presented with the young player of the year award.

Secretary Tracey James also announced that the reward for winning the Beds Senior Cup will be for the club to compete in the Beds Premier Cup before the season kicks off.

The opposition will be Championship side Luton Town and United have been asked to host the tie at Second Meadow. Dates are to be agreed between United and the Hatters.
