The free taster day for coarse and fly fishing was a fantastic success with 55 participants of all ages. More days are planned for the coming year, so please contact Manor Farm for more details.

The Trout/Damsel Lake will be restocked with rainbows on Monday and fly fishing should then resume as normal.

August has seen some fantastic fishing on the specimen carp lake.

The bank holiday weekend alone saw catches on the Carp Lake include a 31lb 3oz common caught by Chris Hazelton of Stevenage on crab boilies.

Night fishing is available on the Carp, Becks and Winters Lakes but must be booked in advance.

For mixed and pleasure anglers, both the Canal and Blunham lakes are fishing well using light lines and small hooks, with afternoons on the Blunham Lake being very good.

Catches include tench to 8lb, roach and hybrids to 2.5lb and carp generally singles figures although an 18lb was caught on luncheon meat to Conor Green of Beeston.

P The open match at Chestnut Pool, Langford, was won by Steve Reid who landed 82lb 6oz of carp from peg 18 fishing with paste.

Second with 54lb 1oz was Joe Lonergan, his catch being a mixture of carp and bream.

Third with a great mixed bag of carp, bream, perch roach and rudd was Pete Simons with 43lb 4oz.

This week's open will draw at 8am.

Day ticket anglers have been reporting some massive catches of 50 plus carp in a day session, which is well over 300lb in weight.

Fish to 23lb have been landed this week, with Smartbaits GLM boilie scoring well. Mixed bags of fish over 50lb is easily achievable with roach, rudd, bream, tench, crucians and lots of big perch.

P There was a new match record set for the Greensands fishery near Sandy.

In Sunday's match, fishery owner Chris Rose took the honours with 38-1-0. Second place went to Carl Sumners (Greensands) with 32-9-0, third was James Heaps (Langford) with 31-11-0 and fourth went to P Worrell (Stevenage) with 29-1-0.

Monday saw some fantastic weights coming to the scales.

In first place and a new lake record for a five-hour match was Alan Oaks (Popletts MG) with 62-12-0. Second was Carl Sumners (Greensands) with 54-12-0, third place went to Paul Raymond (Popletts MG) with 51-14-0 and fourth place to Pete Simmons (Biggleswade) with 47-9-0.

Chris Rose said he was not surprised by the weights, as pleasure anglers have been returning catches of 50lbs plus all week.
