DEREK Beaumont has been honoured again for his tireless work throughout Hertfordshire in the sport of diving.

The Letchworth GC man, a former double winner at The Comet Sports Awards, picked up the main honour at the Herts Sports Partnership Service to Sport Awards.

Sponsored by Excel Sports, they took place at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield last Tuesday night.

Beaumont won the final award of the evening, the inaugural Service to Sport Award. This will be presented to an individual who has given an outstanding service to sport over a number of years.

The Great Britain diving coach has developed the sport of diving in Hertfordshire over the last 40 years.

There were 23 awards presented in total across eight different categories for coaches, officials and administrators.

The awards were presented by Ray Stubbs from BBC Sport and are now in their third year.

They recognise a wide variety of sporting achievements across sports clubs and organisations in Hertfordshire.

Nominations came from both winners of local awards as well as direct from individuals and spanned across an impressive 22 different sports.

Three other local people were third in their respective categories.

Mike Baxter (Blueharts Hockey Club) and Karen Dodsworth (North Herts Road Runners) were in the respective male and female community coach of the year section.

And Nick Winwood received an award along with Simon Lowe for his work with the Saracens Brave Herts rugby team in the The Paul Pearce Coach of Disabled Performers Award.

Presenter Ray Stubbs said: "These volunteers are at the heart of our communities and at the heart of the drive to get more people active and achieve their sporting potential."

Graham Keen, sport project officer for the Herts Sports Partnership, added: "It provides a fantastic setting to highlight all the volunteering that goes on in this community.

"These people make it happen and are the lifeblood of Hertfordshire sport.
