THE expression Bambi on Ice might be appropriate for Preston's cricketers next month.

Eight members of the club are taking part in the Social Ice Cricket World Cup in Tallinn, Estonia, in early March.

The competition will feature other teams from the UK, sides from the host nation and even one all the way from Australia.

They will play each other on a frozen lake on the outskirts of the city in a knockout competition, which is organised by a company called Baltic Adventures.

Players will be wearing spikes and the ice is rolled into a suitable surface for cricket to be played on.

All the action will take place in a day - which is apparently more than enough on the ice!

The Preston side is being captained by David Fleckney and also features Ashley Catlin.

Catlin is a teacher at Fearnhill School in Letchworth GC and some of his students will also be going on the tour.

Mark Waters, who organised the trip on Preston's behalf, said: "It's a real unknown.

"We're all looking forward to seeing what the cricket will be like and what Estonian hospitality will offer us.

"We're going to be taking plenty of photographs and it's sure to be very interesting!"

Anyone interested in sponsoring Preston on the trip or in the summer - when hopefully it will be warmer! - should call Mark Waters on 01462 631322 (home).
