MORE than 450 entries have already been received for next month's Stevenage Half Marathon.

Organised by Fairlands Valley Spartans, the race is on Sunday, November 5.

There is a limit of 1,000 runners and no entries can be accepted on the day.

The race includes the county and South of England championships and will take place just as the Stevenage 60th anniversary celebrations build to a climax.

It is starting near Woodcock Road at 10.30am and is on a two-lap course including Gresley Way, Six Hills Way, Fairlands Valley Park (north and south), and Broadhall Way.

The course is all on cycleways and surfaced footpaths.

The finish will be in front of the Bert Hill Stand at the Ridlins athletics track.

You must be at least 17 to enter the half marathon.

Entries are £10 for members of running clubs (£12 for everyone else).

Younger runners will be welcome on the two-mile fun run which starts at 10.35am. Entries are just £2.

P Chris Leigh from Fairlands Valley Spartans recorded a new personal best of 36:21 in the Hanney five-mile road race on Sunday. The race goes through three villages near Abingdon in Oxfordshire.

Chris King ran the Nike 10k North Versus South in Hyde Park, London, on Sunday. The race was in beautiful sunny conditions and she was close to a personal best with a time of 42:27.

Seven Spartans made it a team effort at the Munich Marathon in Germany.

They enjoyed a well-organised event on a sunny day and all finished together in 4-48:38.

The seven were Roger Biggs, Dave Farthing, Mike Newbitt, Michaela Norton-Lay, Carol Paul, Dave Paul and Mark Sanders.

P Jan Forrester from FVS TRI continued to show good form in the hilly duathlons around her new home in Derbyshire.

She was second in the Vet 50 category in the Carsington Short Course Duathlon covering the 5k run, 30k bike and 5k run in a total time of 1-48:47.

John Burgess improved on his previous week's 10k time by well over a minute with 40:04 at the Southend Classic 10k.

Tanya and James Morris-Jones entered the first Team Cambridge autumn 10-mile cycle time trial and recorded respective times of 31:59 and 27:50.
