THE league and cup hopes of Potton United have taken a nosedive in the last week.

The Royals, holders of the Hinchingbrooke Cup, went out at the semi-final stage of this season's competition to bogey side St Ives on Tuesday night.

Saints, who have done the league double over Potton this campaign, won 2-0 at The Hollow.

Will Fordham scored after six minutes and Liam Kennett doubled their lead early in the second period.

Potton's hopes of winning the UCL Premier Division looked to have disappeared for a second successive year.

New leaders Woodford, who have five games remaining, are ahead by a point and have two games in hand.

Potton could only draw 1-1 at third placed Northampton Spencer on Saturday.

Spencer took the lead through Luke Dowling on 12 minutes but Gareth Cottenden headed home from a corner 10 minutes into the new half to rescue a point.

The two Biggleswade teams both lost on their travels in the SML Premier Division this midweek.

Biggleswade Town went down 2-1 at Harefield United despite a goal from Ben Stocker. And the margin of defeat was identical for Biggleswade United at Welwyn Garden City with Jack Weeden netting a late consolation.

United at least had the satisfaction of taking the spoils from Saturday's local derby at Second Meadow.

Goals from Dean Bull, Matthew McCartney and Robbie O'Dell gave them an unassailable lead. Adam Furness grabbed a consolation near the end for Town.

The two teams are at home this Saturday - Town hosting Aylesbury Vale and United entertaining Leverstock Green.

Potton United are without a league fixture this weekend.

* Stevenage Boro's home game against Scarborough this Saturday has taken on massive proportions.

Wins for Grays and York on Tuesday night saw Graham Westley's side drop out of the play-off places.

Only three points will suffice this weekend as Boro then meet play-off hopefuls Halifax (away) and York (home) as well as resurgent Crawley (home) in between before travelling to relegation threatened Forest Green on the last Saturday of the regular Conference season.

Boro boss Westley said: "There are just five league games and 15 points to win. We have to concentrate on our form and let everything else take care of itself.
