Blueharts Hockey Club had a fantastic week of triumphs with their U10 and U12 boys winning titles and the men’s 4ths winning promotion.

While the U10s and U12s were both winning county finals and the club’s U10s girls qualifying as runners-up to represent Hertfordshire at the East of England regionals in April - the U12 girls narrowly missed out - the men’s 4ths won a derby game against Letchworth to secure promotion from Division 5S.

Captain Tim Sporle scored a hat-trick and Dan Smith got two as the 4ths won the match 5-2.

The men’s 1sts defeated Cambridge University 3-1 for their sixth successive win to remain third in Premier B; but only on goal difference behind Spalding in second.

Man of the match Richard Julian scored to give Blueharts a half-time lead. The visitors equalised but played a high pressing game leaving themselves vulnerable at the back. Some good work down the right found Adam Wells in front of goal who scored his 20th goal of the season. A Chris Batchelor text-book square ball was guided into goal by Liam Connelly to secure three points.

The 2nds had a double header at the weekend. Visiting Wapping on Saturday they lost 3-2. On Sunday they played host to East London and led 2-1 at the break with goals from Graham Burr and Daniel Fair. Harry Sampson scored to make the final score 3-1 which leaves them 10th in Division One.

The 3rds lost 5-2 to Broxbourne and sit seventh in Division 4SW. Ashley Hammond scored a brace.

The 5ths are fighting to stay in Division 5SW and lost 7-0 against Potters Bar while the 6ths, already Division 8SW champions, were to take on Potters Bar but the game was conceded handing Harts a 5-0 walkover.

The ladies’ 1sts beat St Albans 1-0 away from home to keep their promotion hopes alive. Jay Livermore had a shot saved on the line by a St Albans foot resulting in a penalty flick which she put away with confidence for 1-0. The result leaves the side third in Division 2SW.

The 2nds drew 1-1 with West Herts and are eighth in the Premier Division while the 3rds had a double header resulting in a 9-0 defeat to Broxbourne on Saturday and a 2-0 loss to table-toppers Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead on Sunday.

The 4ths did not have a game but face Bedford in a promotion battle on Saturday.
