BOTH Biggleswade's games on Saturday were victims of the rain and were cancelled without a ball being bowled.

On Sunday the weather improved and on a wet wicket at Dunstable, Biggleswade lost their Bedfordshire Premier Division encounter.

Dunstable won the toss and decided to bowl and Biggleswade found it very difficult to score runs.

Biggleswade had reached 98-4 when Jay Swajbak ran himself out for an unlucky 13 runs after brisk knocks from Michael Johnson (45) and Jimmy Hart (20).

Richard Smith and Tom Dupuy followed in quick sucession to the pavilion before Dan Swajbak and Chris Asque added 54 in nine overs to take Biggleswade to an innings close of 169-8 with Asque unbeaten on 28.

Asque also starred with the ball taking 4-29 off his 10 overs and at 29-4 Dunstable looked in trouble.

But they recovered with an unbeaten 141 partnership from Steve Watts and Geoffrey Baines to cruise to victory on 170-4.

On another excellent Ickleford wicket there was another run feast on Sunday as Crawley Green were beaten by 44 runs.

After his 78 the previous week, 16-year-old John Edwards continued his brilliant form with a superb maiden century, scoring exactly 100.

He added 51 with Peter Robinson (22) and was then joined by Sam Giggle who made an impressive 75 not out.

John Dermont was unbeaten on 27 as Ickleford made 257-2 in their 40 overs.

Good bowling from Ickleford meant Crawley Green were always behind the asking run rate despite having wickets in hand and finished on 213-4.

Preston III's beat Sawbridgeworth IV by 49 runs on Saturday.

Preston batted first and reached the magical 200 in 39 overs thanks to a brilliant knock from Nigel Biggs and a spirited 47 from Iain Purton. Jack Bayford and Mark Jones made useful contributions with 20 runs each.

In reply, the visitors set about the task with a one-man show with a superb century coming from Howard. But once Graham Byford had removed him in a spell of 4-45, with 14-year-old Olly Gallimore taking the last wicket to secure victory.

Datchworth got back to winning ways on Saturday with an emphatic seven wicket victory over Old Haberdashers to rekindle their promotion hopes from Saracens Herts Division Five.

The Old Boys were restricted to 171-5 thanks to some intelligent bowling from Steve Groves and Matt Budd.

A rejuvenated Chris Brown, recalled to the side following his century for the second team the previous week, led the reply with aplomb and with the in-form Luke Bennett, Datchworth cruised to 100 without loss.

Bennett finally went for 39 having struck six fours and six in 53 deliveries. Brown eventually went for 73 hitting six fours and four sixes before Steve Groves and Darren Croucher (23 not out) steered the villagers close to a winning target.

Groves finally went for 10 allowing Nick Webb to join Croucher to guide Datchworth to victory.
