The Comet Stevenage Sunday Football League

It was a good day for the Stevenage sides in the county cup competitions.

Nirankari Sports Sabha hit a dozen against Riverside AFC Royals in the Herts Sunday Senior Cup. Rory Spencer (four), Ricky Case (hat-trick), James Taylor (two), Jasdev Khangura (two) and Gabriel Follano scored.

Dun Cow celebrated new sponsorship from Amerco Electrical of Welwyn Garden City as Adam Furness (hat-trick), Ian Thorne, Ryan Jenner and Rikki Doyle were on target as well as Scott Mahoney and Shaun Marshall from free-kicks against Brookmans Park.

Despite being goalless at the break, a young Bottles side had a good away win at former CSSFL side Bar Absolute in Hitchin.

Leeroy Odd returned from injury with the opener, Reece Tyrer, Dave Wheatley, Richie Vannon and Robert Yates were also on target.

Station seemed to be down and out, two behind at AFC Hornets. However, Sam Gittings and Ross Gormer forced extra-time, and Luke Garwood won it.

Liam Errington (two), Joel Mason and Alex Headington were on the mark for Bedwell Athletic at another Hitchin side, Red Star ICL.

The two sides to go out were Mallard and Broadhall, quite comfortably to Whitwell AFC and S&N Fairway respectively.

In games brought forward from this coming Sunday, both sides made it through in the Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup, and will face each other in round three.

MBDA won with ease in Baldock against Cannon Res.

Pete Gentle's header started the ball rolling, while Tom Younger and Jamie Campany effectively ended the game before the break. A cracking strike from Younger sewed it up.

James Khakpour-Smith netted a terrific hat-trick (the third from the spot after Ross Jackson was fouled) as Peartree won at Hemel's Golden Lion.

In the Division One Cup, Coopers' quarter-final opponents were revealed as Pin Green won through.

Dave Baldwin headed in from a corner before Steve Soards grabbed the winner as he beat the keeper from range via a deflection. Hogshead replied through Calvert Garnes.

In the Division Two Cup, a well-worked Martin Metcalf goal was mere consolation as Granby St George were beaten by Old Social, for whom Stuart Archer, Rob Guinan and Scott Taylor (hat-trick) scored to set up a meeting with league leaders FC Rising Sun.

Norwich Union got through thanks to James Anderson (two), Ed Holloway and a real rarity, a Graeme Duff strike. What is more, it was into the top corner with his unfavoured right foot from 30 yards!

King Pin United had earlier equalised through a retaken James Wyatt spot-kick after Jon Pace was deemed to have moved as he saved the first effort.

Newcotech also made it through, Adam Pratt (two), Peter Brewster, Daniel Welch, Danny Hukin and Tom Bowgett netted against Rapidsource (Si Moore and Jon London).

In the Division Three Cup, Matt Grima, Alan Gifford and Dean Cooper forced extra-time for Athletico Timebridge, but while completing a four-goal haul, hotshot Carl Thompson was joined on the scoresheet by Ricky Wilson, Mark Brooks and Ant Alcock as Chequers made it through.

Crown took the lead through Ben Coles but fancied MC Racing won through thanks to substitute Tom Kelly's knee and yet another late Steve Teale strike. They now meet Bottles Res for a place in the semis.

Five-down after 20 minutes, seven-down at the break, one North Herts Celtic player decided to not even bother playing the second-half as White Horse hit double figures to set up a meeting with MBDA Res through Jason Lovelock (four), Jamie Robertson (hat-trick), Frazer Triggs (two) and Daniel Quirk's first goal for the club.

Hermit of Redcoats took advantage of the other sides playing in cup action by jumping three places to go top of Premier Division table.

John Vooght capitalised on a slip on the halfway line, sprinted and slotted home for the opener.

Moments later, a corner was cleared to the edge of the box for Miki Vooght to volley home.

A superb passing move for the third culminated with a Lewis Mitchell cross being finished by Craig Gilbert.

Basement side Old Red Lion's reply came from Joe Chilton.

In Division One, there was a long-awaited first point of the season for Aston Athletic!

Elliot Harvey-Manning gave them the half-time lead.

Coopers equalised through Gavin Acton's header and went in front through Brad Harrison's excellent finish.

Aaron Nolson was the hero with 10 minutes remaining with the equaliser. Adam Douglas and Christian Goodyear were dismissed for Coopers after the final whistle.

Breachwood Lions managed four at home thanks to Ian Canning (two), Ali Collins and John Harvey.

It was not enough as Dave Clements inspired second place Probuild to the points with two goals, one a terrific 30-yard overhead kick.

Adam MacKenzie returned to the side with a goal while Rich Hall, Michael Bunker and Craig Hadley also netted.

Pig and Whistle grabbed their second win of the season thanks to John Johnston (four) and Harley Gibson against Stevenage Celtic Supporters (Ross Miller).

The clash of the top two in Division Two was no contest as FC Rising Sun won with ease against Emperors Head.

Just over the half-hour mark, Riyston Williams sent a through ball from the halfway line which Kologo Richards slotted past the keeper.

Within a minute, a great team goal ended with Karl Akers scoring at the second attempt.

They extended their lead on the hour when Williams finished and they hit a quick double as Lee Kitching followed up Williams' saved effort.

Once again goals came back-to-back in the last 10 minutes as a Michael Beeton throw-in saw Richards flick a back header home and Kitching's through ball saw the impressive Williams round the goalkeeper to finish again.

ProCladd versus Crooked Billet was called off by the official referee. The teams played on - the latter winning - but the result is in doubt.

Bottles Res went top of Division Three in a fiery encounter. Two smart finishes from Robbie Duckworth gave them a two-goal lead at the break.

MBDA Res stormed back through Steve Stapleton and Daemon Lee but Duckworth grabbed the winner from the spot.

Captain Lee was sent-off with 20 minutes remaining for retaliation after Luke Lucey's frustration got the better of him.

Johnny Gardner, Robbie Lucas, Gary Henniker, Kevin Ward and Lee Setterfield netted as Fox beat Twin Foxes (Tony Davies and a Rob Barnes penalty).

In the Invitation Cup, Stevenage Colts Old Boys won on the day through Barry Hazelton, Martin Merriman and Steve Bush, but Ryan Gregory's brace, twice putting them in front, meant AFC Stevenage nicked it overall.

AFC Proverbial did not worry too much about the deficit as Russell Bull (two), Jim Bywater (two), Craig Wilson (two), Alec Thomas and Darren Mortimer were on the mark against Triage, whose consolations came courtesy of a Neil Roskilly brace.
