Hitchin Colts travelled to Cheshunt after a superb victory in the previous round at Sudbury.

Having already played and trounced Cheshunt in the league the only fear for Hitchin was complacency. It was clear from the kick-off that Hitchin were keen to spin the ball wide and use their pace and handling skills to overcome the opposition.

Steve Hampton opened the scoring after one minute scoring to the left of the posts after the ball was moved through three fast phases. Christie Caldwell slotted the conversion.

Christie was on hand again to score the next try two minutes later, the speed of mind and feet saw Hitchin move the ball to the left where Will Anderson made a blistering run up the left hand touchline. The ball was quickly recycled and Christie bumped a tackle and scored to the right of the posts.

Tank got the next try with a darting run from the side of a ruck. Anderson was showing great pace and made a number of telling runs in the first half and his hard work was rewarded with a try after a searing run from Will Jay.

Nuts carried his Sudbury form into this game and from the next kick-off caught the ball and sprinted to within five metres of the Cheshunt line.

Players and supporters were stunned by the pace of the prop and Nuts stayed on his feet well to wait for support. Tank moved the ball right and Daniel moved the ball quickly to Joe who scored.

Steve Hampton rounded the first half off with a superb interception and showed lightening pace to cruise in under the posts. The referee stopped the first half after 28 minutes and announced that he intended to only play 28 minutes in the second half.

At half time the coaches were stuck for something to say. What do you say to a team that have just played the best attacking rugby you have ever seen from a junior club?

More of the same was asked for and Duane scored an excellent try after fine work by Christie and Jesse.

Cheshunt never gave up the fight and came back into the game. Hitchin gave away a number of penalties 10 metres out and it was only the strong tackling of Jack, Daniel, Joe and Reece that prevented a score.

Jesse made a great hit on the Cheshunt winger who should have been in at the corner. Frustration started to creep into the game as Hitchin thought they were being hard done by over the interpretation of the tackle area. Jack and Daniel on a number of occasions got early hands to the ball whilst on their feet only to be penalised.

Joe scored the next try after great interplay from Nuts and Duane, Joe celebrated the try by being shown a yellow card at the next phase for being offside.

Dave rounded the game off with a superb try down the left wing, the fastest man at the club sped past four covering defenders to round off a superb display.
