STEVENAGE'S swimmers achieved a creditable second place at the recent Cheshunt Open Gala at Borehamwood Pool.
Their 32 swimmers netted a medal haul of 11 gold, 13 silver and eight bronze medals at the event.
The club's swimmers also achieved seven fourth places, 10 fifth places and four sixth places.
The final results meant that Stevenage came second overall to Essex club Killerwhales by a narrow 14-point margin. This was a fine achievement considering the high quality of competition at the event.
Stevenage's team consisted of Christie Bays, Zoë Buckley, Laura Durrant, Molly Ewins, Georgia Hazell, Katie Heasman, Georgia Larkins, Abby Livingstone, Danielle Murphy, Rebecca Neil, Nicola Shepherd, Kasharna Staines, Emma Stewart, Lily West, Luke Ames, Danny Buckley, Matthew Costello, Liam Doonan, Joseph Mileusnic, Jack Jarrett, Tony Keast, Tom Marsland, Ben Murphy, Jake Robinson, Adam Spicer, David Spicer, Paul Spicer, Tobie Van Zwieten, Sam Vessey, Martyn Walton, Tom Ward and Thomas Worbey.
As one of the newly promoted clubs to London Division One of the National Speedo League, Stevenage's youngsters acquitted themselves well in the first round held at Borehamwood Pool.
The young team did well against seasoned opposition from London, Herts, Essex, Middlesex and Suffolk.
After the event, club coach John Lowe said: "The high quality of opposition was a big challenge for our swimmers. Several competed above their normal level and achieved personal best times in the process. It is an experience which will make us stronger as a club.
