The Hitchin Sunday Football League

The first set of cup finalists were confirmed over the weekend as the second strings from HTS Barleycorn and Cannon made it through to the Reserve team cup final.

Cannon Res romped to an impressive 5-1 victory with goals from Nicky Bendon (two), Danny Ryan (two) and Ross Cook, Simon Flecknall replying for AC Malone Res.

It was a much tighter affair between HTS Barleycorn Res and Whitwell Res as 120 minutes of football could not separate the sides as it finished 2-2 with Ben Gerrard netting the HTS goals. HTS Barleycorn finally won the shoot-out 4-3.

Shillington are having a season to remember, already into the county cup semi-final and riding high in the league, they reached another semi.

This was after a 4-1 win at First Division SMU, Dan Bentley (two), Gavin Morris and Mark Baker scoring the Shills goals.

In the Premier Division Cup first round, Kcinsatop were 6-4 winners at home to HTS Barleycorn.

Rob Beckwith, Brett Donnelly (hat-trick), Jay Norris and Luke Donnelly scored for Kcinsatop, while Eddie Kemp (two), Mark Sutton and Brett Coverdale found the target for HTS.

In a second round tie, Red Star ICL won a 10-goal thriller against Whitwell.

Goals from James Campbell and Chris Reeves in extra-time gave them victory after earlier doubles from Shaun Turner and Paul Garrett had taken the game into the extra half hour.

One game took place in the Premier Division and PJ Hitchin moved into second place after a 4-1 victory at Engineers Henlow.

Eddie Fannon's goal gave the hosts the lead but PJ Hitchin responded immediately and completed victory with goals from Ryan Foster (hat-trick) and Ricky Small.

In Division One, Crown Stotfold's title challenge seems to be falling by the wayside as they lost again, their third defeat of the season.

This time they lost 6-4 at home to Angels Reply who put put to bed any remaining doubts about their own survival chances.

Ocean's Eleven were beaten 3-2 at home by Kcinsatop Res, Anthony Bowskill scoring all three of the Kcinsatop goals.

In Division Two, Broadmead thumped SMU Res 8-1. Steven Young rediscovered his early season form as he netted four, and other Broadmead scorers were Mike Bryder (two), Victor Gonzalez and Paul Berry.

Dynamo Letchworth won a tight encounter at Baldock Road against the inconsistent North Herts Hatters. Bill Kochrider scored the only goal of the game.

In county cup action, Hitchin sides had mixed fortunes.

In the Herts Sunday Junior Cup quarter-finals, Division Two side George and Dragon beat Northaw 4-3.

Wanderers had less joy as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Langleybury CC in the fifth round of the Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup.
