A professional middleweight boxer from Hitchin is getting back into the ring on Saturday as he bids to extend his unbeaten record.

Graham Tirrell is co-owner of the respected Elite Fitness gym near the town’s railway station and is undefeated in seven pro bouts – with two victories coming inside the distance.

He is fighting on the London Calling card at Bethnal Green’s world famous York Hall in the heart of the East End on Saturday evening.

The eagerly-awaited fight night is hosted by the renowned Goodwin Promotions and features 15 of the UKs top prospects at the boxing venue.

Graham’s last outing was in September 2016 and after a break and signing with a new team he aims to be back with a bang.

He turned pro back in November 2013, racking up seven straight triumphs with his last victory in November 2016 against Scott Hillman.

Speaking to CometSport the 32-year-old said: “I had a couple of years out to set up my business Elite but I’m on the road back now at middleweight.

“I kept training throughout and I’m still in shape. I’ve also been working hard during my 12 week training camp for this fight.

“If all goes well I’ll be looking at competing for the southern area title but I’ll I’m focussing on is Saturday night.

“I’m feeling very strong and I’m looking forward to fighting again at the York Hall. Hopefully I’ll be back with a bang.”

As Graham established his gym business he took a break from the sport before linking up with the powerful Goodwin team who also look after the likes of Dereck Chisora, and Nicola Adams.

However Graham can’t wait to sample the special atmosphere fight fans generate in the East End after having fought at the venue earlier in his career.

He added: “I’ve boxed there a few times and it feels like I’m going home. The atmosphere is second to none at the York Hall and I can’t wait to fight there again.”

Stablemate and loyal pal Tom Ansell is backing Graham. The highly-rated Ansell who has won all five of his bouts as a professional fighter between 154lbs and 140lbs is confident his friend will do well.

He said: “I’ve never seen him in such good shape and it’s great to see him back in the ring.

“Hitchin’s boxing scene is thriving again and I’m confident he will remain unbeaten and take York Hall by storm. My prediction is a third round knockout win for Graham.”
