MARCUS CRAWLEY reports

GRAHAM Westley's managerial future at Stevenage Boro may depend on 90 minutes this weekend.

Only a win for Boro at Forest Green will be enough to put any pressure on Morecambe who only need a draw at Grays to ensure they book the final play-off berth.

Westley remains optimistic that Grays can help his side out.

"I always felt it was going to go down to the last game," he said.

"If Grays turn up and show their professional pride, I'm 110 per cent confident they will win the game.

"I think they're the best side in the league and Mark Stimson is the best manager in the league. All the other managers have to face that fact.

"Grays have got the Trophy final and play-offs to go for.

"People who are successful don't want to be beaten. I think a very good Grays side will win and our job is to go to Forest Green and get the victory we need."

Although Boro are unbeaten in eight, Morecambe have also not lost in their last seven games.

And Grays, assured of a play-off spot, stumbled in drawing at home to Southport on Tuesday night.

Skipper and central defender Jason Goodliffe and striker Darryn Stamp are both suspended this weekend after being red carded in Boro's 1-1 home draw against York on Saturday.

Westley was also sent to the stands for protesting about Stamp's dismissal.

He continued: "Everyone in the ground was talking about the referee at the end.

"I thought there were two really good teams out there trying to play football. There were still some exciting incidents in the game.

"The players were tremendous against York. We had a lot of incisive football and good chances even when we went down to 10 men in the first half.

"The ref wouldn't talk to me and I can't get any closer to understanding his logic.

"He was generally bad and I can't believe Ronnie (Henry) and then Jason didn't give a penalty away.

"For Stampy's red card, the first one was for a foul and then the boys were adamant that the York player (Clayton Donaldson) was five yards offside.

"Jason is completely bemused; perhaps in the cold light of day, the referee will see sense."

Boro old boy Michael Brough will not be lining up against his old side. Brough scored from the penalty spot as Forest Green went down 2-1 at Woking on Tuesday night.

But the midfielder is not being allowed to face his former team-mates this weekend.

"I'm gutted as I really wanted to play this one. When I signed for Forest Green, it was a game I looked to. It would be a chance to be a hero and keep the club in the Conference."

Regardless of Saturday's result, they may yet be saved as Altrincham face a massive points deduction and Canvey Island may be withdrawing from the league.

Brough added: "We've tried to forget the Altrincham and Canvey Island situation. We've got to beat Stevenage on the final day and hope others slip up, a bit like Boro must do of course."

Forest Green have drawn with Exeter and champions Accrington Stanley in their last two matches at home.

Saturday's fixture will be the last ever game at The Lawn as the club is moving to a new ground for next season.

"I won't miss it as it's a really bobbly surface at the moment and the plans for the club's new stadium are magnificent," continued Brough.

"I'm desperate to be playing in the Conference next season and it won't be any good for the club if we're in the league below.

"I was sad to leave Boro; it's fair to say they have underachieved in the last two seasons for the squad they have got.

"They may yet get fifth spot but they should be finishing higher than that anyway.
