Stevenage Boro 2 Boreham Wood 1

Boro will look to make history next month as they attempt to win the Herts Senior Cup for the first time in the club's history.

They will now meet Bishop's Stortford in the final at the County Ground, Letchworth, a week on Tuesday (April 4).

Boro were made to fight all the way before they finally overcame Boreham Wood in Tuesday night's semi-final tie at Broadhall Way.

The strong Boro line-up started strongly with Chris Sullivan having a powerful shot blocked at close range, and then from a Danny Williams cross, Jefferson Louis guided a header just wide of the goal.

Youthful Boreham Wood's only early effort came from Joe O'Brien with an effort from long range that was well smothered by Shane Gore.

Boro took the lead on 14 minutes when first Eric Obinna made a strong run and appeared to be brought down in the area.

The referee had none of it, awarding Stevenage a corner which was swung in by Williams and headed goalwards by Louis.

Sullivan was on hand to turn the ball past Noel Imber from close range.

Boro should have added to their lead shortly afterwards after Louis made ground with a good run down the left before squaring for Sullivan who saw his effort blocked brilliantly by former Boro keeper Imber.

They also went close when a Williams free-kick from wide out evaded everyone and bounced back into play off the left-hand upright.

Wood equalised just before the break with a goal from nothing when right-back Denis Paratusic hit a stunning 35-yard shot that beat Gore from wide out.

The second half saw Boro up their workrate but frustrated by a well-organised Wood defence.

Efforts from Adam Miller, Obinna, Louis and Rob Quinn all went adrift, while Wood had a long-range effort from Kieron Adams saved and Gore saved smartly at the feet of Andre Delisser.

Boro left it late to grab the deserved winner when Ieuan Lewis threaded a ball for Louis who fended off two challenges and neatly slipped the ball past Imber.

Boro: Gore, Warner, Quinn, Williams (Lewis 70), Obinna, Miller, Hocking, Perpetuini (Sealey 79), Louis, Weatherstone, Sullivan (Iwediuno 90).
